ABOUT

DOOPS is a bright and dreamy clothing and textile design label, home-grown in the Byron Bay hinterland of Northern NSW, Australia.

All our colourful fabrics are designed by Jane Newham in her home-based studio, in the midst of the happy chaos of raising two great kids. Jane’s designs are inspired by the beauty and magic of nature, along with a love of pattern, bold shapes and bright, playful colours. Inspired by classic labels like ‘Marimekko’, DOOPS aims to make simply-styled clothing that helps women of all sizes and shapes to feel joyfully alive and comfy in their own bodies.

DOOPS is based in the hinterland village where Jane she grew up. Jane designs all the prints and then works with manufacturers based in Brisbane, where all the clothing is made. She prefers to use natural fibres such as linen, cotton and silk and wherever possible will seek organically grown fibres to better protect our precious soils and waters. Our fabrics are digitally printed using inks that are water-based and 100% solvent-free.

Jane has been a maker and an artist all of her life, starting as a little kid sewing doll clothes at the feet of her crafty mother. She trained as a textile designer at RMIT in Melbourne and has also worked as an illustrator. Making the brave leap to self-employment in the countryside has been a journey of transformation and adventure (and hard yakka!) for Jane. What began as a backyard screen-printing solo experiment has organically grown into the DOOPS of today, committed to the ethical creation of lovingly hand-made, playfully designed clothing.
